Privacy
Effective October 16, 2026. This policy covers the Divvider app for macOS and the divvider.app website.
Divvider is free and works without an account. Nothing about you or your windows leaves your Mac unless you ask it to check for an update.
The short version
- No account, no sign-in, no email address.
- No analytics, no telemetry, no advertising, no tracking.
- Your settings and saved placements stay on your Mac.
- The only network requests are update checks to divvider.app and downloads from GitHub.
- The window-control permission is used to move and resize windows, and for nothing else.
What the app keeps on your Mac
Divvider stores your grid size, gaps and margins, shortcut assignments, appearance choices and saved placements in your own user account, along with local diagnostic logs that help explain permission and window-placement problems. These are never uploaded.
The window-control permission
macOS requires your permission before one app may move another app's window. Divvider asks for it during setup, and you grant it in System Settings → Privacy & Security. The permission is called Accessibility on earlier macOS versions, or Device Control and Data Access on macOS 27 and later.
Divvider uses that permission to move and resize the windows you place, and to read the small amount of window information needed to do that. Window contents are not collected and nothing is transmitted anywhere. You can revoke the permission at any time in System Settings.
Update checks
Divvider can check for updates by requesting one file: https://divvider.app/updates/appcast.xml. Automatic checks are off until you turn them on in Settings → General; you can also choose Check for Updates from the menu bar at any time.
A check sends your IP address, the Divvider version, your macOS version and the usual request information (such as a user-agent string) to the server that hosts divvider.app. It does not send your settings, your saved placements, the names of your documents, or anything about what is on your screen.
When you download Divvider or an update, the file is served by GitHub, so GitHub's own privacy statement covers that transfer.
Update checks are also counted in aggregate — how many installs checked in and which Divvider versions — so we can tell whether a release is reaching people. Those totals keep no addresses and nothing that identifies an installation.
This website
- No analytics, no cookies, no third-party fonts, no tracking scripts, and nothing used to identify you.
- The site is served by a web host, which keeps standard request logs (such as IP address, browser and requested page) for security and troubleshooting. Those logs are not used to identify visitors.
- Download links on this site point to GitHub.
What Divvider does not do
- No account, mailing list, advertising or profiling.
- No selling or sharing of personal information.
- No collection of window contents or screen contents, and nothing you type is recorded.
- No crash reports or usage statistics are sent.
Your choices
- Leave automatic update checks off — they are off by default.
- Revoke window control in System Settings → Privacy & Security.
- Remove the app to delete its preferences and logs from your Mac.
Changes and questions
