One shortcut. ⌃⌥D

A little order, in three moves

Less arranging.
More doing.

  1. 01

    Open the grid.

Focus a window. Click Divvider in the menu bar, or press Control + Option + D.

  2. 02

    Choose a space.

Drag across the cells to draw the area you want your window to occupy.

  3. 03

    Let it fall into place.

Release to move and resize the window. Press Escape if you change your mind.

A grid. A gesture. Done.

You choose
the space.

Half a screen for writing. A corner for reference. Or a little more room for the window you’re working in.

Try the illustration: drag across the grid, or tap two corners. With a keyboard, use arrows to move and Enter to choose each corner. Escape cancels.

Choose a region8 × 8 grid

Your space, your way

A little adjustment.
A better fit.

Keep things simple, or fine-tune the details.
Divvider makes room for both.

Grid8 × 8
Gap8 pt
Margin8 pt

Give everything a little breathing room.

Choose your rows and columns, the gaps between windows and the space around the screen’s edge. Subdivide the grid when you need a finer fit.

Make familiar moves feel automatic.

Save a favorite placement and give it a shortcut. Choose a global shortcut or one that works while the grid is open.

Small by design.

Ready in your menu bar. Out of your Dock. Set it to start at login if you like.

See it your way.

Use a fullscreen grid, a compact selector, or both together.

Made for your Mac.

Download Divvider
  1. 01

    Drop it into Applications.

Download and unzip Divvider, then move the app to your Applications folder and open it.

  2. 02

Give your windows a helping hand.

Follow the app’s setup guidance to allow window control in System Settings → Privacy & Security. The permission is called Accessibility on earlier macOS versions, or Device Control and Data Access on macOS 27 and later.

  3. 03

    Try your first placement.

Focus a window, press Control + Option + D, and drag across the grid. Release to place it. That’s the whole idea.

A few useful details

Good to know.

Is Divvider free?

Yes. Divvider is free to download and use.

Which Macs can run it?

Divvider requires macOS 14 or later and a Mac with Apple silicon. The current build does not support Intel Macs.

Why does it need permission?

macOS requires your permission before Divvider can move and resize another app’s window. Divvider’s setup guidance takes you to the appropriate System Settings pane.

If permission stops working after replacing the app, quit Divvider. In that pane, remove the old Divvider entry, add the copy from Applications, enable it, and reopen the app.

Does it work with every window?

Some apps enforce a minimum window size or limit resizing. Divvider works within those limits, so a window may not exactly match the region you select. Exit macOS fullscreen before arranging a window.

What stays on my Mac?

Divvider stores your settings and saved placements locally. The app does not require an account or include analytics. Local diagnostic logs help explain permission and window-placement issues.

This website uses no analytics, cookies or third-party fonts. Once download links are connected, downloads will be served by GitHub.

Where can I find updates or get help?

Use the GitHub README for setup information and the release links. For a window that won’t move, first check its minimum size and Divvider’s window-control permission.

When reporting a problem, include your macOS version, Divvider version, the affected app and what you expected to happen. Copy App Info in Divvider’s About tab helps collect the basics. Leave private window contents out of your report.

A little space goes a long way.

Make room.
Get back to it.
