A grid. A gesture. Done.
Half a screen for writing. A corner for reference. Or a little more room for the window you’re working in.
Try the illustration: drag across the grid, or tap two corners. With a keyboard, use arrows to move and Enter to choose each corner. Escape cancels.
Your space, your way
Keep things simple, or fine-tune the details.
Divvider makes room for both.
Choose your rows and columns, the gaps between windows and the space around the screen’s edge. Subdivide the grid when you need a finer fit.
Save a favorite placement and give it a shortcut. Choose a global shortcut or one that works while the grid is open.
Ready in your menu bar. Out of your Dock. Set it to start at login if you like.
Use a fullscreen grid, a compact selector, or both together.
A native Mac app with light and dark appearances and a shortcut you can change.
A quick introduction
macOS 14 or later.
A Mac with Apple silicon.
Download and unzip Divvider, then move the app to your Applications folder and open it.
Follow the app’s setup guidance to allow window control in System Settings → Privacy & Security. The permission is called Accessibility on earlier macOS versions, or Device Control and Data Access on macOS 27 and later.
Focus a window, press Control + Option + D, and drag across the grid. Release to place it. That’s the whole idea.
A few useful details
Yes. Divvider is free to download and use.
Divvider requires macOS 14 or later and a Mac with Apple silicon. The current build does not support Intel Macs.
macOS requires your permission before Divvider can move and resize another app’s window. Divvider’s setup guidance takes you to the appropriate System Settings pane.
If permission stops working after replacing the app, quit Divvider. In that pane, remove the old Divvider entry, add the copy from Applications, enable it, and reopen the app.
Some apps enforce a minimum window size or limit resizing. Divvider works within those limits, so a window may not exactly match the region you select. Exit macOS fullscreen before arranging a window.
Divvider stores your settings and saved placements locally. The app does not require an account or include analytics. Local diagnostic logs help explain permission and window-placement issues.
This website uses no analytics, cookies or third-party fonts. Downloads are served by GitHub. Checking for app updates contacts divvider.app; downloading an update contacts GitHub. Automatic update checks are optional, and the privacy policy explains exactly what a check sends.
Use Check for Updates in the menu bar menu, or enable Check for updates? in Settings → General. See the GitHub README for setup information and the release links. Report problems through GitHub Issues. For a window that won’t move, first check its minimum size and Divvider’s window-control permission.
When reporting a problem, include your macOS version, Divvider version, the affected app and what you expected to happen. Find your Divvider version in Settings → About. Leave private window contents out of your report.
A little space goes a long way.
